Securing your computer from outside predators trying to access your internal network should be just as important to you as securing your home. Without a secure computer, it is likely that someone could possibly gain access to your computer and steal your personal information. You are probably thinking that it is highly unlikely and will never happen to you. After all, you've seen those Windows Updates popup in the bottom left hand corner of your Windows operating system and you have some sort of anti-virus software installed too.

Do you really think that Windows Updates is enough to safe guard your valuable personal information from outside predators? Do you also think that the anti-virus software that came with your laptop or computer will keep out all those nasty viruses and Trojans you read about on the Internet? If you do, then you should think again. Many people think that by just having an anti-virus package installed on their computer is enough to keep out Trojans and viruses. I have seen many computers with an anti-virus software package that has never been updated since it was first installed onto the computer. These packages need to be updated at least once a week, and even better to be updated every day. There are thousands of new viruses and Trojans released on the internet every single day. If you do not have the latest update even for one day, your computer is susceptible to infection.

Virus software can be scheduled to check for updates on a daily basis in the background. This means that you can carry on working without having to manually check for new updates while you are working on something else. The software does all the work for you where it will check what DAT version it is using, whether there is a later version available and finally downloading the latest DAT file. A DAT file is a small package that the anti-virus software downloads and updates itself with the latest information on viruses and Trojans.

There are some good free anti-virus software packages now available for you to download. There is no cost to you and they will keep your computer virus free. By Mike JJ Johnson
